This past year, our school was able to take its first history fair project to compete at the state level in Tallahassee. The young ladies who competed advanced to the final round of judging representing both Polk County at the state finalist level.
This year, Mrs. Smith and I have been able to assemble a class of students to create their own history fair projects to compete at both the county and state level. In order to assist these students and further their research skills while incorporating additional technological elements into their projects, we are in need of additional technology devices. With this grant, we hope to obtain five kindles, cases, and screen protectors so that each student will have their own tablet to use during the year on various projects and to be dedicated to their individual work and usage for their history fair project.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 125

The additional of these Kindles has changed the focus and motivation of our students. With the implementation of these devices, students now get to interact with online resources and deepen their understanding of content. Our Critical Thinking class now has enough devices that every student can use their own Kindle to continue research and work on their history fair projects. Thank you so much for your donations to help make our school and students better!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

What will be done with my students

Students will use these tablets to research their topics, analyze primary sources, write their process papers, and work on their annotated bibliographies. Currently, we have thirteen students in this class and only eight tablets for students to use. With the additional tablets, students will be able to work independently on various tasks and research projects throughout the year while strengthening their research skills in preparation for the extensive research and multi-media presentation necessary to compete in the history fair .

Benefits to my students

The addition of these devices will allow our students to have a true 1:1 initiative for prior knowledge building activities leading up to and culminating in the history fair project. In addition, these devices will allow students to compete in the Stock Market Challenge this school year . Lastly, these devices will be available to other classrooms to utilize as needed for additional technology integration opportunities.

The benefit of these tablets is giving these students every opportunity to compete at the county and state history fair competition. Through this class, students will be gaining skills they will need for the rest of their academic career and these tablets will assist in this process to make it easier. These tablets will also be used to compete in a Stock Market Challenge later in the year as well as be available for other classes to use to integrate technology into their classroom.

Budget Narrative

The Kindles, Cases, and Screen Protectors which come in a set of three, will be purchased through Amazon and delivered with free shipping and tax free.
