Impact to My Classroom

Wow! We love the materials that we received through "Find It Fund It Polk"! As a result of this grant, my classroom received a curriculum entitled "Parachutes, Robbins and Scarves oh My!" and the accompanying items that we need to successfully implement.

In this package, we received a parachutes, beangags, scarves and LOTS of music! There are activites for every grade I teach, pre-k through 5th grade, and all the students LOVE it! We are learning about form, guided listening, movement, genres - there is even a "cup" routine! They are learning important music standards - and having a blast while they learn!

When we changed classrooms this year, to a MUCH larger classroom, we knew we would love it! When this material came in from Find It Fund It Polk, we were able to do some of these activities that we never could in our smaller classroom. Thanks for making our move even more fun!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Let's get moving - literally! For the first time in years, I'll be having music class in a larger room and we can't wait to add movement to our music lessons! With these items, students will experience classical music, learn many lessons based off of national standards, and have lots of FUN!

What will be done with my students

We'll use parachutes, ribbons, scarves, streamers and stretchy bands to engage the students in music lessons. We'll learn standards such as: tempo, dynamics, form, syncopation, guided listening and more. Adding movement to these already valuable lessons will get everyone engaged and tap into another part of their brain! As there is a home-connection piece, students will be happily encouraged (but not required) to share the music at home as well!

Benefits to my students

What could be better than a resource that will have students begging to listen to more classical music? Parachutes and Ribbons and Scarves, Oh My! has some wonderful guided listening and movement-based lessons, and the Pack has the materials we need to make the lessons come to life!

The students will think this is FUN, FUN and MORE FUN! As a teacher, I think we'll be meeting valuable music standards. Win win!

These lessons offer a wonderful opportunity to build a school/home/family connection. I'll send home Family Musical Moment notes to encourage families to share the experience by downloading the piece of music and listening to it together. Each lesson in this book has a page of Family Musical Moment Notes in the data files on the CD+ as well as in reproducibles throughout the book's pages.

Budget Narrative

All of these materials (book and items) are non-consumable. We will use all of them year after year with all grades. These will benefit every student in every grade level at our school, as every student attend music on a rotation (approx. 700 students).
