Goal

The primary goal is to offer therapeutic activities that use visual, auditory, tactile, and vestibular stimuli to improve focus, lessen anxiety, and encourage student self-regulation.

What will be done with my students

Students will have opportunities for breaks during stable conditions. In the sensory room, they will participate in therapeutic activities that use visual, auditory, tactile, and vestibular stimuli. These activities aim to help students regulate their emotions, improve focus, reduce anxiety, and enhance self-regulation. The room will include calming elements, such as soft lighting, soothing textures, and calming sounds, as well as stimulating elements like movement-based activities and interactive items, to meet the individual needs of each student. The goal is to provide a safe and controlled environment that supports students with sensory processing challenges, helping them manage their emotions and improve their ability to learn and engage in classroom activities.

Benefits to my students

A sensory room can enhance student well-being and improve academic performance by providing a safe and controlled environment with specialized equipment for students experiencing sensory processing challenges, which allows them to regulate their emotions. Access to the sensory room enables students to participate in therapeutic activities using visual, auditory, tactile, and vestibular stimuli, leading to improved focus, reduced anxiety, and better self-regulation1. The room is designed with calming elements like soft lighting, textures, and sounds, as well as stimulating elements like movement-based activities to address individual student needs. The sensory room will be integrated into the school's support system, with staff trained to use the space effectively to promote student well-being and academic success.
