Goal

My primary goal for acquiring new nonfiction classroom library books include enhancing student engagement and fostering a love for reading by providing diverse and relevant books. I aim to support various learning styles, interests, promote critical thinking and inquiry, and ensure alignment with curriculum standards. These books will be available for all first-grade students to read.  

What will be done with my students

These nonfiction books will be permanently integrated and can be used with students to enhance critical thinking, promote research skills, and foster a deeper understanding of real-world topics.

Teachers can integrate these texts into the curriculum by facilitating discussions, encouraging project-based learning, and allowing students to engage with the material in diverse ways. Additionally, nonfiction books can support literacy skills by exposing students to different writing styles and factual reporting, making learning both informative and enjoyable.

This grant connects to first grade literacy, social studies, and science curriculum and standards. They support critical thinking and inquiry by encouraging analysis and discussion.  

Benefits to my students

All of these book titles have been approved by the NCSD and are part of the Accelerated Reading Program. The entire first grade level team of teachers and all first-grade students will have access to these new books. Students will be able to read and test on these books to help reach their AR goal.

The expected outcomes are to broaden student understanding of the world by exposing them to diverse topics, facts, and ideas, fostering curiosity and a love for learning. Nonfiction also improves vocabulary and language skills, making them more articulate and better communicators.  

Budget Narrative

The funds will be used to purchase multiple copies of different nonfiction books. All of these books have been approved by the School Board and are all on a first grade reading level.
