Nassau Education Foundation

The differentiated below level phonics reader will help students move from below grade level to on grade level texts. We will use them in alignment with our core phonics curriculum. The books are created by the same core phonics curriculum we use and will follow the same scope and sequence, simply adjusted to help bridge their needs. The UFLI manual will also be used to bridge the gaps of our below level students by providing explicit phonics instruction.

Goal

The differentiated below level phonics reader will help students move from below grade level to on grade level texts. We will use them in alignment with our core phonics curriculum. The books are created by the same core phonics curriculum we use and will follow the same scope and sequence, simply adjusted to help bridge their needs. The UFLI manual will also be used to bridge the gaps of our below level students by providing explicit phonics instruction.

What will be done with my students

Students will use the decodable readers weekly and UFLI lessons from the teacher manual in small group teacher led center. A group of 6 students will use one decodable book for each student weekly during the entire school year for each class in first grade at Wildlight Elementary. The UFLI lessons will be used for all first-grade students with the identified need of explicit instruction in centers and / or reading intervention times.

Benefits to my students

The decodable text will allow the students to continue to remain on the scope and sequence of Saxon Phonics core curriculum. These books will bridge the reading, sight words, fluency, and comprehension of lower performing students to be on grade level. We will use these books as a base for these students who have been identified as having this need. These books will bridge the same students to on grade level texts each week.

Budget Narrative

There are 26 books in each set. One set of books is $55.10. This will be enough book for five classes to help us bridge the gap of our below level students to on grade level. The UFLI manual goes with UFLI lessons that are available online. It is an explicit and systematic phonics program that will also help us to fill our students gaps.
