Goal

Our goal for the Transition Adult Program (TAP) is to provide our new and returning students uniforms to increase their confidence and professionalism. Looking professional on job sites and in the community, help TAP students as they gain employability skills and gain independence through community work based learning experience.

What will be done with my students

The Nassau County Transition Adult Program (TAP) enrolls students age 18-22 young adults with significant needs in Career Experience Courses where the majority of curriculum focuses on learning to work in the community. Support from school staff and our businesses partners encourage students as they learn employability skills which prepares them for paid employment after exiting the Nassau County School system.

Life skills such as personal hygiene, shopping and clothing care prepare students for greater independence. The students complete a personal hygiene check list each morning before going out to work in the community. They are responsible for ensuring their uniform is clean, wrinkle free and personal appearance is well groomed. Uniforms are washed daily after each work day in our TAP classroom where students rotate laundry duties each week.

Students will participate in shopping and selecting uniforms to ensure the correct size and fit. They will learn the importance of these life skills to dress for success.

Benefits to my students

Financial restraints limit many of our TAP students from purchasing their own uniforms. Providing a uniform grant to purchase professional clothing will increase our students confidence and help them be proud to represent Nassau County District Schools in our community. It will also improve learning in the area of life and employability skills.

Budget Narrative

Using many of the work shirts and jackets the grant provided last year, the grant issued for 2024-2025 school year will be used for our incoming TAP students and to supplement uniforms and accessories applicable to new job sites. We are partnered with employers at a horse ranch, therefore students have a need for rubber boots. Most of our uniform items will be purchased at Wal-Mart for economical pricing. TAP logo printed items will be purchased from an outside vendor. We appreciate the grant contribution to help ensure our Transition Adult Program is a success. Thank You!
