Nassau Education Foundation

In order to effectively integrate writing and reading comprehension together and accommodate the shift in the new Florida State Standards, our students need accessibility to computer-based writing prompts. Along with accessibility to prompts, they need the opportunity to practice by typing their essays. The goal as reading teachers is to set students up for success by giving them exposure to these types of materials and the opportunity of typing on the computer.

Goal

In order to effectively integrate writing and reading comprehension together and accommodate the shift in the new Florida State Standards, our students need accessibility to computer-based writing prompts. Along with accessibility to prompts, they need the opportunity to practice by typing their essays. The goal as reading teachers is to set students up for success by giving them exposure to these types of materials and the opportunity of typing on the computer.

What will be done with my students

Students will be able to work individually through their Chromebook on assigned grade level writing prompts and practice their planning and editing strategies. Implementing comprehension through computer-based text is essential for setting the foundation for the State of Florida grade 5 writing expectation. Accessibility to this computer program will not only give students the opportunities they need to engage in text through technology but also teacher the opportunity to monitor and guide students through the critical thinking processes involved through reading a text on the computer and creating and typing their own essay based on the prompt.

Benefits to my students

Accessibility and practice to master the state's expectation of reading a digital prompt, planning an essay, writing an essay, and then typing an essay. With this program, teachers have the ability to submit student samples to be graded to help establish paramotors of what is expected in student's final work.

Budget Narrative

These digital materials will benefit all 225 incoming 5th graders and all 5th grade reading classrooms.
