Goal

To use microphones to give students the ability to run sound engineering, perform over music, and deliver their performances effectively throughout our facilities.

What will be done with my students

I teach my students how to use the sound equipment. For our shows, I train a student to use the sound board, activate the microphone packs, and how to react in case something goes wrong during a performance. In two years at FBMS I have only jumped in once to help a student during the performance. Their critical thinking skills are expedited as STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math) is the driving opportunity. In addition, with working microphone packs, we can effectively use our free computer apps to design cues on their computers and test them in our facilities the next day.

Benefits to my students

Imagine helping a dancer build the confidence to sing on stage, and not just a small part, but a large part in a musical as an eighth grader. She grew before my eyes and I couldn't be more proud of the three months of dedication and rehearsals. The third show her whole family arrives, including her Great Grandmother, and her eight year old microphone breaks. Now I am backstage trying to fix it as I hold her with other cast members as her tears poured on my shoulder. In my four year of education, I will never forget that moment.

I never want our facilities or education to ever stand in the way of a students hard work ever again. The Nassau Education Foundation has showed their dedication in the past of our aging auditorium, and I ask you to help once more as we grow our program (now to over 250 students between both FBMS and FBHS).

Budget Narrative

These two microphones will replace our oldest microphones that are around eight years old. We have eight microphones that need to be replaced, but with our limited resources in the arts, this would fix an immediate need as 2 of our 8 old microphones are broken beyond repair.
