Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 90

This grant has allowed my students the opportunity to have a deeper understanding of the National FFA Organization. The Official FFA jackets, station plaques and gavel allowed them to hold part of a tradition and understand the importance of the organization. The agriculture classes have used them in class to learn the basics of parliamentary procedure and participate in opening and closing ceremonies. FFA members have also participated in events outside of the classroom, such as leadership development events, parades, and school-wide club events where they have worn the jacket proudly to show others who they are and encourage them to join the organization. During the leadership development events, Yulee FFA members had the opportunity to meet with members of other chapters around the area to network and brainstorm ideas on how to grow our chapter. This grant has given my students a sense of pride, confidence, and acceptance in the organization and their school.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to provide the Yulee High School agriculture education program with the FFA materials needed to properly conduct an FFA meeting and have a sense of pride and ownership as they wear FFA official dress to leadership and community events.

What will be done with my students

The National FFA Organization is one part of a three-part model to agriculture education and is taught in the classroom as part of the curriculum and promoted for the students to join. By receiving this grant, our newly established FFA chapter’s members will be able to find pride in their chapter and themselves as they wear the FFA official dress to leadership conferences at local, state, and national levels, compete in various career and leadership development events such as prepared public speaking, parliamentary procedure, livestock judging, ornamental horticulture demonstrations, agriculture communications, and many more offered by the FFA, and community events where the students can demonstrate the FFA motto: Learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to serve. While in class and during Yulee FFA meetings the students will learn how to correctly conduct a meeting using parliamentary procedure therefore learning the proper use of a gavel.

Benefits to my students

As part of the FFA mission, the FFA is dedicated to “making a positive difference in the lives of its’ student by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success”. Allowing the members of Yulee FFA, the opportunity to prepare for competitions and wearing FFA official dress will help strengthen this mission and allow them to gain confidence in themselves. They will also have the opportunity to meet with fellow FFA members from around the state and nation allowing them to gain life-long friendships. My students will learn the importance of helping the community and being united in an organization based upon tradition and dedication to the agriculture industry.

Budget Narrative

The items I am requesting will help to establish our chapter and get my students excited to be part of such a prestige’s organization. The class set of jackets, ties, and scarfs will help to outfit students for years to come in official dress, so they feel that they are welcome and able to participate in events. The gavel and station plaques are to teach the students the proper way to set up a meeting room, conduct opening and closing ceremonies, and parliamentary procedure for business transactions. These items will also help prepare them for career and leadership development events.
