Goal
The goal is to increase listening comprehension as well as foster a love for reading.
What will be done with my students
Each week students will be provided with an oppurtunity to listen to children's literature on tape/cd. After listening, students will be able to take an A.R. quiz there fore increasing A.R. points, as well as write and discuss about the story they listened to.
Benefits to my students
Listening to literature will increase students multi-sensory experiences with books because most listening centers include voice and sound effects, music and multiple narrators. Audio books give students an important introduction to listening- a skill they must master in order to read. Hearing a book on tape helps students see how words on the page can come alive in a fluid, expressive way; therefore modeling fluid reading. Listening to literature will also increase students vocabulary.
Budget Narrative
Funds will be used to purchase listening centers that include 4 books per title. Each set will rotate between 4 or more teachers. Because the books will last for years, they can be used for years to come impacting even more students.
