Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 200

All 5th grade students will benefit from the robots.  We will use them in STEM lab to enhance understanding of different forms of energy.  The greatest outcome from the robots will be for our higher students enrichment.  We plan to have an after school robotics club in the spring for the higher students.  This will help enrich these students in an after school setting.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this grant is to give 5th grade students an opportunity to learn about robotics and coding in an after-school club environment. Through this opportunity, our goal is to cultivate a passion for Science and Technology in our 5th grade students that can grow in years to come.

What will be done with my students

Our plan is to form a Callahan Intermediate STEM Club. The club will be made up of 20 5th grade students who will participate for 6 weeks in a 1 hour club meeting to learn, build, and program a robot. The robots will then been displayed in the Library for the whole school to enjoy and observe. Each club meeting will include a short lesson guided by a 5th grade Science teacher, and then students, working with a partner, will code and build their robots.

Benefits to my students

The benefits to our students will be giving them a hands-on experience with coding and robotics outside of the traditional classroom setting, and to hopefully cultivate further interest in these STEM topics.
