Goal

When I am teaching my Pre-Algebra students, I want each one of them to be motivated and engaged in learning. I have found using individual white boards with dry-erase markers is a way to increase student performance and success!

What will be done with my students

My teaching is structured with a time of teacher-directed instruction followed by a time of guided practice. This is when the students rush to get their white boards and markers so they can enjoy doing their work in color! The students love working with this different kind of medium because the markers are colorful and the students enjoy the feeling of writing with them as well and seeing the colorful display of their work.

Benefits to my students

Having the students use dry-erase boards, I can immediately see their work and their answer and give immediate feedback to each student and intervene with additional instruction if an error has occurred. If the students are working with partners or in a small group, their partner or group members can also readily see their work and then collaborate to come up with a final answer. An additional benefit of using the boards and markers and having increased student engagement is off-task and disruptive behaviors greatly decrease or do not exist.
Using the dry-erase boards and markers for 5 classes virtually every day becomes quite expensive as the markers have to be replaced quite often. Therefore, I am requesting funds so that my classroom can be supplied with markers for this next school year so that my students will be more motivated to learn which will result in greater success!
