Nassau Education Foundation

I would like a subsciption to the magazine Cobblestone which focuses on US History and a subscription to Faces which focuses on world cultures, people, and places. My goal is to use this resource to drive instruction because its articles and photographs help make history more exciting for my history students. Also, the articles in this resource will help my reading students. The FSA is 60% nonfiction and social studies content is from their grade level. If I can provide interesting history articles to my students, then I can help improve their background knowledge which has been linked to higher reading comprehension.

Goal

I would like a subsciption to the magazine Cobblestone which focuses on US History and a subscription to Faces which focuses on world cultures, people, and places. My goal is to use this resource to drive instruction because its articles and photographs help make history more exciting for my history students. Also, the articles in this resource will help my reading students. The FSA is 60% nonfiction and social studies content is from their grade level. If I can provide interesting history articles to my students, then I can help improve their background knowledge which has been linked to higher reading comprehension.

What will be done with my students

There are 9 issues with each subscription so, the resource will be used every month to supplement my lesson plans in social studies and reading classes. This resource can be used in future years too and shared with my colleagues. The impact will initialy be 110 students but has the possibility to reach 100s more every year.

Benefits to my students

The benefits to my students is a deeper knowledge of history (US History and World History), improved reading comprehension and writing skills, and an increase in interest due to the high interest and unique articles in the magazine.

Budget Narrative

The cost is less than a $1.40 per student but if you account for future years then it is even less per student. The subscription is not funded by Nassau County.
