Goal

The goal of the sensory pathway hallways is to provide a gross motor sensory break that is available to all students. What will be done with my students

The sensory path will be located in both the kindergarten/1st grade and Pre-K hallways but accessible to all who walk through the buildings. The OT and PT will provide an in-service at the beginning of the school year to give some examples and suggestions of how to use the sensory pathway and how it can be accommodated to all students. Classes can schedule breaks during the day to use the hallways or utilize it during transitions in and out of the classroom. The students with higher needs that need more frequent breaks can use the pathway as their scheduled or earned break.

Benefits to my students

All students will have the opportunity to reap the benefits as they transition through the building throughout their day. The sensory pathway offers an opportunity for movement and sensory input on days when the students are unable to go outside for recess. Additionally, the sensory path will allow for sensory breaks for those who require a little extra movement and input multiple times throughout their day. The frequent sensory breaks and additional gross motor activity will help to improve attention and focus to task.
