Original Grant Overview

Goal

Our goal is to create and establish a College and Career Center for students. This College and Career Center will provide a student-centered environment to inspire students and establish the importance of college and career exploration and readiness. This will aid in improving the College and Career-going culture that we strive to set at Yulee High School.

What will be done with my students

Students will have the opportunity to visit the College and Career Center on dedicated days during lunch time to speak with counselors about topics such as: financial aid, scholarships, college admissions, career interest inventories, career exploration, job applications, college exploration and college applications.

College and Career Resources including but not limited to College Brochures, College Guide Books, a Scholarship Binder, Financial Aid Information, and Career Inventories will be available for students to use as needed.

We would also use this center to host representatives from various Colleges and Universities who come in to speak with students.

Additionally, we would host college and career workshops and presentations in this area.

Classroom teachers will would be able to reserve this room for their college and career activities also.

Benefits to my students

Students would benefit from the College and Career Center by having a dedicated center for college and career exploration and assistance. Students will have easily accessible information from colleges and careers, have access to counselors regarding college and career topics, and resources for them on a variety of topics.

Students will also have access to technology for career exploration and application assistance.

This will allow students to learn more about their post-secondary options and receive assistance with college and career related activities which will ideally contribute to students being better prepared for post-secondary success. The college and career process can be overwhelming and this center will provide a safe haven for students to immerse themselves in information and receive hands-on assistance to make college and career task completion more manageable.
