Nassau Education Foundation

Tactile learning and evolving technologies engage students across different learning styles and needs. Creativity is kinetic and energzing, making students more adaptable to a rapidly evolving world. Technology supports creativity because it requires interaction. Student can use the 3D doodler to take simple designs and create more complex designs while learning to solve construction problems that arise. Then students can use these 3D pieces to create stronger pieces on the 3D printer.

Goal

Tactile learning and evolving technologies engage students across different learning styles and needs. Creativity is kinetic and energzing, making students more adaptable to a rapidly evolving world. Technology supports creativity because it requires interaction. Student can use the 3D doodler to take simple designs and create more complex designs while learning to solve construction problems that arise. Then students can use these 3D pieces to create stronger pieces on the 3D printer.

What will be done with my students

Student exploration beginning with a two dimensional plane to create a three dimensional project. Foe the first month, students will watch several videos on how to use, maintain, and safety of the 3D Doodler. There are several videos on the website giving students step by step instructions how to make simple designs and help them become successful working with the machine. There are also advanced lessons on the website for students to use which will help them develope their skills with working with the 3D Doodler and help them to think of their own creative designs. Students will spent about two weeks creating their own design and first prototype. Students will begin with simple designs on paper and draw the different sides of the 3D project. They can then create a template to build the project using the 3D Doodler.

Benefits to my students

Students can use the 3D Doodler to create small pieces of art they can later reproduce in larger scale. The smaller version helps them to learn to solve deign problems before they begin work on a larger piece, saving them time and creating a more solid piece of art. Artist are using 3D printers to create sculptures, furniture, garments, and many other things which are consumed around the world.
