Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 23

This year I was able to fully implement flexible seating in my classroom. My students have had the flexibility to choose a seating option that best fits their learning style. Some students choose regular chairs, some choose bouncy balls, some choose wobble stools, and some prefer to sit on a rug. Students are very engaged and are comfortable in the classroom. It has become a home away from home. I have learned so much through this experience and look forward to sharing my flexible seating with my future classes.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To improve student engagement, help students feel more comfortable in the classroom, and give students more movement inside the classroom.

What will be done with my students

Students will be given more of a flexible seating arrangement. The flexible seating will range from balance balls to wobble chairs. This type of seating allows the students to move, yet stay in place at the same time. If students are exerting more energy, they will be more engaged. The classroom will become more student-centered where the students feel more at home, and less about the boundaries they are in all day. Flex seating helps students by becoming more mentally and physically prepared.

Benefits to my students

So many of our students are struggling with learning disabilities and impairments that keep them from staying focused in the classroom. With more of a flex seating arrangement, students are able to minimize their need for standing, bouncing, or walking around the classroom. Students can use balance balls to sit on during class. This will help students that need to move or have the urge to wiggle during a lesson. This type of seating would give all students a chance to exert energy, but focus at the same time.

Budget Narrative

18 Balance balls for every student's desk and 6 Wobble Chairs for the teacher table.
