Nassau Education Foundation

We are asking for three flat screen televisions to use with our students with special needs. We meet with these students in small groups in the office area of our pods. Due to the space where we meet, we do not have Promethean boards or elmos. We would use these televisions to project our laptop screens for all of the students to see at one time. We would use these to show videos to enhance our lessons and to do the interactive lessons that the classroom teachers are doing on their Promethean boards.

Goal

We are asking for three flat screen televisions to use with our students with special needs. We meet with these students in small groups in the office area of our pods. Due to the space where we meet, we do not have Promethean boards or elmos. We would use these televisions to project our laptop screens for all of the students to see at one time. We would use these to show videos to enhance our lessons and to do the interactive lessons that the classroom teachers are doing on their Promethean boards.

What will be done with my students

Our students with special needs are pulled into the office area of our pods to receive small group instruction in math and reading. We also pull these students as needed to address areas of weakness within the general education classroom. When we pull these students, we have no way to project anything for the whole group to see. We will use the televisions like the classroom teachers use the Promethean boards and/or elmos. We will be able to use sources like BrainPop and Discovery Education to enhance our lessons. We will also be able to use the Class Flow software used with the Promethean boards to allow students to participate in interactive lessons with the group on their chrome books. These televisions will allow the information on our laptop to be presented for the whole group instead of everyone gathering around the laptop. We would use these televisions on a regular basis for instruction. We would be able to begin using them as soon as they are purchased because are already doing some of what we want the televisions for on our laptops in our small groups.

Benefits to my students

The students with special needs will benefit from these televisions because it will be much more user friendly for us to present information to the students. We will be able to present information to the whole group on the television for everyone to see instead of the students gathering around the laptop to try to see the information that we are presenting. It will also allow us, the ESE teachers, to use the programs such as Class Flow that are being used to enhance education in the general education classrooms. These televisions will be used for the intermediate classes.

Budget Narrative

With the money we will purchase three T.V's to be used in the classrooms with a support facilitator for small group instruction.
