Goal

To provide reading materials and recorded books in Spanish for our ELL students with Accelerated Reader independent reading levels from 2.8 to 7.2 and interest levels 5-8.

What will be done with my students

Students will read books in Spanish and in English and pass Accelerated Reading practice tests with correct comprehension levels of at least 60%.

Benefits to my students

Students will gain reading experience by reading books in their native Spanish and then, as they become more proficient with English, read the same book in English and pass the Accelerated Reader reading practice test. The goal is to improve their reading proficiency, reading comprehension skills, and language skills.

Budget Narrative

Working with our ELL Paraprofessional and reading teachers, we have discovered a need for more library books in both Spanish and English with lower reading levels but higher interest levels. With this grant we will attempt to meet that need.
