Goal

To instill a love of literacy in PK-2 students and make additional reading opportunities available at home.

What will be done with my students

Students, families, and community members come together during Celebrate Literacy Week Florida! for our Read Like a Pirate event in January. At the event, students and families participate in a variety of literacy games and activities that encourage and promote literacy at school and at home. Students also visit Treasure Cove where they find that getting lost in a good book is worth it's weight in gold! Students are invited to choose from a variety of high interest fiction and non-fiction books within their reading level and fill their bags with books to take home and enjoy with their families.

Benefits to my students

The event brings together students, families, and community members in a shared effort to promote literacy. The books will provide students with a variety of literacy opportunities so that they can continue their reading efforts at home. In addition, students learn at a young age, how important and incredibly fun it is to read!

Budget Narrative

Books will be purchased in a variety of reading and interest levels that appeal to Pre-K-2 students at our school.
