What will be done with my students

What will be done with the students?
Reading, reading, and more reading, will be done with our students! Not only will this reading meet the curriculum standards, it will meet our students at their reading level and will meet their interests. A small group of students will be presented with a book that will allow them to read to learn. The book will not be too difficult or too easy, and the book will strike an interest, keeping the students engaged in their reading. The students will not have to struggle to read each word, not understanding what they have read because the text is too difficult. Nor will they get bored because the text is too easy. They will be reading and learning, while enjoying it!

Benefits to my students

Benefit:
Every student on our campus is seen in a small group setting by both a teacher and a paraprofessional, on a daily basis (see small group reading pictures). This “double dose” of small group reading instruction allows our students to be held accountable for their learning because it allows for no student to be “hidden” in the group. Our teachers and paraprofessionals are able to build their daily instruction on specific needs and interests for each group seen, allowing instruction to be differentiated and purpose driven. The benefit in having a large collection of books to choose from is in the variety it has, allowing more reading levels and interests to be met. Our current collection consists of books saved from old curriculum or from books printed and put together by our paraprofessionals, which is very limited in number, interest, and level (see picture of our small collection as well as paraprofessionals making books). We want to meet the needs and interests of all of our students, promoting the joy and success of reading.
