Goal

My goal is to provide my 6th, 7th and 8th grade gifted students with hands-on educational experiences that encourage motivation, imagination and creativity. I will give my students the opportunity to develop and enhance critical thinking and problem solving skills that will be useful throughout their school career and into their adult life. 

 

What will be done with my students

My students will be using Gizmos and Gadgets Kits that require them to use their imagination and creativity to develop their own inventions that are electronically controlled. They will perform experiments, analyze and record data while comparing and contrasting their inventions to those of their peers. Teacher directed lessons accompanying the Gizmos and Gadgets tool kit integrate science, technology, art and math skills. Students will explore various careers which will enable them to make connections between the concepts they are learning and the real world. 

 

Benefits to my students

Gifted students need enrichment and a challenging curriculum that will motivate as well as stimulate their minds and foster creativity. The Gizmos and Gadgets kits will benefit students by giving them the opportunity to develop and enhance critical thinking and problem solving skills needed to create their inventions. Students will continue to benefit from these skills throughout their school career and into adulthood. Making connections between education and the real world will benefit students by giving them a reason and a purpose for learning. Students will benefit from working with peers to explore concepts that integrate technology, math and science, while making learning fun!  

 

Budget Narrative

The money from this grant will be used to purchase two Gizmos and Gadgets tool kits for my classes to use to create electronically controlled inventions. The money will also be used to purchase chart paper, markers and calculators that will allow students to record and analyze data collected from their experiments and inventions.
