Picture this...an incredible professional grade sports photography lens with no camera to use it on. That's my journalism class. My goal is to get a camera for our journalism students that will allow them to take quality pictures. Our current camera doesn't have enough guts in it to process a clear photo when using our sports lens so moving photos are blurry and unclear. Not to mention it's on it's last breath and leaves us stranded at events unable to take pictures every few uses. Our other camera was sent in for repair and returned to us "unrepairable" and we were advised to replace it with a more current model.

What will be done with my students

Journalism students are given photography assignments to capture moments in time for our yearbook. With this new camera, students can take quality pictures that they can not only submit for their yearbook assignment but that they can also use to build a portfolio for jobs. I currently have an opportunity for 4 students to receive paid training for photography during the 2016-2017 school year and they will need to have access to a quality camera to do the photography work.

Benefits to my students

The journalism students have an opportunity to build a portfolio that can get them intern work next year and which can lead to future job opportunities. The students are passionate about photography and journalism and they are good at it. I want to provide them with the tools they need to possibly turn this into a career for them.

Budget Narrative

We had Joseph Lorentzson a professional photographer through our portrait company come evaluate our equipment and give us a recommendation on a camera. The camera he recommended is a Canon7d which has the capability to provide quality pictures as well as work with our existing lens, bag, chargers, etc. (which will save us money). This model is a year or so old which will put it just within our price range because new cameras have been released since the 7d model.
