Goal

The goal of this projects is to provide students with a stronger global awareness of how the environment is impacted by our choices. Students will have the opportunity to learn more about the environment through an art project where they will partner with students in a South American village.

What will be done with my students

Students will have the opportunity to create a piece of artwork around a central theme. Lesson plans will be provided by the company Art Link. Students will create a piece of artwork around the central theme and write about their piece. Art Link will partner our school with another school in South America that has gone through the same lessons. The artwork will be exchanged and the information translated form English to Spanish and then Spanish to English for both groups of students to analyze. Art Link will host a video conference for the two groups of students where students can discuss the art pieces. A translator will be provided through the Art Link to assist with the students communicating. As the environmental teacher I will collaborate with the art teacher to facilitate this project. Students will have an environmental education class first semester and art class second semester. West Nassau High School Spanish 3 and 4 students will also work with the students in this class to teach them conversational Spanish to better communicate during the video conferencing segment. Art pieces created will also be eligible for entry into the International Children's Art Exhibit, which is displayed live and online in May of 2016.

Benefits to my students

Students will have the opportunity to develop cultural awareness and learn to appreciate the culture and art of another country.

Budget Narrative

The Art Link: Creative Connections company will provide the common lesson plans and training materials for the teacher, the shipping and mailing costs, translate all submissions into Spanish or English for the exchange, and organize and host the video conference.
