Goal

This proposal centers around the need for an increase in both the quantity and quality of resources for the soon-to-be-changing advanced placement government and politics exam.

What will be done with my students

With a greater emphasis to be placed on document based question writing and analysis of various types of readings, new materials are needed to stress these skills more strongly. Along these lines, I am requesting activity books that focus on political cartoon analysis, Constitutional myths and misinterpretations, application of the Bill of Rights, and materials from the AP Government Center for Learning. These activities, along with supplemental and educational videos which help to provide extra information for four of the six units of study in AP government, will better prepare all students. Students will be involved in more hands-on activities, be more accountable and engaged in the reading of documents designed for the course, and will have more opportunities to read and write in a way that will give them great practice for their AP test.

Benefits to my students

These materials will especially help those students who take AP government and politics in the first semester, retain information for their AP exam taken five months after they have left the class. Using a variety of resources will aid in the understanding and retention of knowledge which promotes successful results for students. It also serves another primary function of this class, which is to promote a more knowledgeable citizenry.
