Goal

To enrich our 5th grade science curriculum with hands-on experiences and high-interest non-fiction readers.

What will be done with my students

Hilliard Elementary School's fifth grade science is taught by a team of three teachers. This grant will provide this team with hands-on science manipulatives, consumables and high-interest non-fictions readers that will increase student engagement in learning scientific concepts in the classroom and our science lab.

Benefits to my students

How fun would it be to use models of simple machines while learning about force and motion or reading about the science behind skateboards or high-tech clothes in grade appropriate high-interest readers. It's all about making science fun, hands-on and engaging.

Budget Narrative

The Capstone Classroom Libraries catalog provides numerous high-interest science readers in small group sets. School Specialty provides resources for science manipulatives. Wal-Mart could be used to purchase consumable science lab items such as baking soda, aluminum, vinegar, food coloring, etc.

# Item Cost
1 Non-fiction readers $400.00
2 Science Lab Consumables $300.00
