Goal

To provide an alternative reading option for struggling readers who comprehend a book better when they can both listen to the book and read it at the same time and to provide good literature to auditory learners who prefer to listen to a book.  

What will be done with my students

Students will be able to check out individual MP3 players with a recorded book and read the book while listening to the recording. They may also take Accelerated Reading tests after completing the recorded books allowing them to meet their Accelerated Reading requirements. 

Benefits to my students

Many struggling readers are auditory learners who comprehend much better while listening to recorded books. After developing an appreciation of certain authors, it is hoped that students will continue to read more books and that their comprehension will continue to improve. Teachers may also use the recorded books for their entire class while doing a book study. 

Budget Narrative

Our school has experienced great success using the Playaway MP3 players with recorded books for students. Unfortunately, the price of these devices has continued to escalate, some costing almost $100 each. Our book budget has allowed purchase of only a few each year. These extra funds would allow us to update the titles we already have available for students.
