Goal

Students will understand the value and importance of taking and recording precise measurements, specifically in relation to using significant figures.

What will be done with my students

During science laboratory experiments, students will use digital scales capable of measuring to .1 grams.
Students will mass required chemicals for accuracy during their experiment. Additionally, in some labs, students will use the scale to measure outcomes of the experiment.

Benefits to my students

The digital scales will improve data collecting because of increased accuracy. Here at FBMS, we have never had the advantage of "new school" laboratory expenditures. We have one digital scale that masses to the nearest gram, not .1 grams. As a result, all student data is estimated.

Budget Narrative

We are requesting twelve .1 gram sensitive digital scales. This will allow for 2 teachers to checkout 6 scales at the same time in order to conduct laboratory experiments. Through Frey Scientific, we receive a 30% discount which lowers the cost per scale from $89 to $62.30
