Goal
In these lab activities, middle school students investigate the evidence that supports multiple science theories and laws in order to evaluate and explain the natural world around them. These labs enable students to explore and interact with science phenomena so that they can make higher-level connections with the content.
What will be done with my students
These hands-on lab activities help students understand geologic theories, atomic structure, circuitry, the laws of motion, plant tissue systems, and cell structures. These labs will be used three times a week in order for students to connect science concepts to what scientist do in real world science. It has them practice the scientific method in order to solve a problem or answer a question about the real world.
Benefits to my students
These labs will be used through 5 periods or 115 students throughout sixth through eighth grade. It will impact the entire student body of Fernandina Beach Middle School. It will be used by the entire science department in order to show how the scientific method is used in real world science through hands-on inquiry. It will increase end of course scores, state standardized tests, but more so it will help students be more knowledgeable about science concepts in the new century and make informed decisions.
