To fund a class set of banding wheels to grow our school's ceramics program. I want to elevate my student's experience in the studio by providing them with top of the line equipment to aid in their creative process. The banding wheels that I requested will help every hand-building ceramic project that we will create while creating forms and decorating pots with glazes. A banding wheel is an essential tool to make centered and balanced work, and to see the multiple facets of their hand-built ceramics. I hope this grant will impact my art classroom positively and that my students can think about their artwork in a centered, balanced, and multifaceted way.
Banding wheels gives students easy access to all sides of their sculpture. Funding this project will not only improve the quality of my students work by allowing them to easily view all angles of their projects with ease, it will also hold them to a higher standard by acknowledging how fortunate they are to have access to high end ceramics materials. Having my students see how invested their teacher is in providing them with high quality equipment will help my students feel valued, appreciated, and important.
Giving all student and equitable ceramics education. I currently only have 3 banding wheels in class and it is a first come first serve basis. I want all students to have access to the same materials. In my opinion, a banding wheel is a must-have in the ceramics studio that meets all clay needs. Through my research I have discovered that this specific brand of banding wheel is top of the line and recommended by professionals for long-term use. I know that this equipment will last for a long time and will be a one-time purchase for Sickles High. Due to its price, it is difficult for classroom teachers to purchase a classroom set of banding wheels from their district budget alone. With the aid of this grant, I will be able to hold my ceramic students to a high standard and set a new precedent for ceramics courses in Hillsborough County.
