Project Goal

I hope to receive funding for ipads to support math and science learning through technology.

How Project Benefits Students

Students will benefit in multiple ways if this project is funded. Students will use the ipads during math with applications to practice fact fluency, muli-digit addition and subtraction, naming and creating shapes, place value practice, problem solving, and more. In addition, programs that students currently use on the computers, iReady and Reflex, can be used on ipads. More students will be able to do these programs at one time, our classroom only has 4 desktop computers. Students are highly engaged when using ipads, it is something students in my area do not see or use frequently. During small group math time and independent time, students will have the opportunity to reinforce their math skills through use of the ipads.
In science, students can research and plan experiments, as well as use applications like MyOn to read about and do research on our different science units. When students write their own research reports, having ipads enables more students to do their own research at one time.
The ipads would be a permanent integration into our daily activities through guided math groups or science groups.

Expected Outcome(s)

From this project, two classes of 18 students each will benefit from this project. Once I have received the funding, I will buy the ipads and download meaningful applications to support student learning. Students will have opportunities to use the ipads during small group and independent work time.
Looking ahead, all the classes I have in the future will benefit from the ipads. My students will be able to use them every year to reinforce math and science content. If I change departments or grade levels, the ipads can move to any classroom and be implemented.

Detailed Cost Summary

The regular, newest ipads on the apple website cost $329 each. With tax included, that is $352.03 each.
The ipad cases are from Walmart: ULAK iPad 9.7 2017/2018 Case, Heavy Duty Shockproof Kidproof Protective Case Silicone PC Dual Layer Hybrid Cover for Apple iPad 9.7 inch (2017 / 2018) with Universal Kickstand. These ipad cases will protect the ipads when being handled by children. They cost $13.98 each. Adding up the cost of the 4 ipads and the 4 cases, the total cost is $1,464.04.
