Project Goal

Provide my students a couple of laptops to help them enhance their learning experience as readers. The students will be able to go on different reading programs on the laptops and practice their reading skills, especially my low readers.

How Project Benefits Students

Students will be able to have access to a laptop to help them improve their reading skills and keep them motivated to read more. It will also help assist in building their confidence as readers. I'm always trying to find different ways of teaching my students strategies and techniques to help them become better readers. Teaching in a Title I school makes it difficult for the students to have access to a computer both at school and at home. Many of my students' parents can not afford buying a computer; therefore, some of them do not have access to a computer at all at home.

Expected Outcome(s)

Having access to a laptop will help the students improve their fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. The students will be able to go on iReady, MyOn, and MobyMax. I only have four computers in the classroom and I usually have 20 students at a time which makes it very difficult to have the students work on a computer. This will also help improve their test taking strategies to better prepare them for the FSA. It's critical that the students perform well on this end of the year assessment. The more they practice their reading skills, the better chances they'll have to be promoted to 4th Grade and become great readers for life.

Detailed Cost Summary

The cost for each laptop is $650 + $75 (District set-up) 650+75 = 725.
