Project Goal

To help Migrant students be successful in school through the use of technology in the home.

How Project Benefits Students

Most of the Migrant Kindergarten students are monolingual when they start school. They need a much more exposure to English, than is offered in school, in order to learn the language. Providing a child with the opportunity to play phonics games and watch educational videos at home, will help to accelerate the development of their English language skills. This will have a positive effect on their education and student success.

Expected Outcome(s)

The Amazon Fire is a child friendly tablet that kids absolutely love. They will spend hours at home, watching videos and playing phonics games to help them to learn to read. Every Migrant child that is monolingual in Kindergarten will have a chance to take the Tablet home. Parents will sign them out and return them after a period of time. The expectation is that this will extend English language exposure to the child for hours every day which will certainly help to develop their language and literacy skills.
