Goal

The goals of my “Math Bubble” project are to engage struggling students with disabilities to develop love for math and increase their understanding of math concept and the ability to apply the knowledge to real life math situations.

What will be done with my students

Struggling students will meet for a “Math Bubble” specialized small group math instruction weekly. Students will work with the teacher using hands on manipulatives purchased through this grant as well as other materials that we already have to explore and tackle real life math problems while learning math concepts. Each time students meet, they will go over a specific math concept, and tackle a specific Math problem together. Individual student’s progress will be tracked and charted through “Bubble Chart” created by the teacher. As bubbles on students’ individual bubble charts get punched, students will be able to earn Math badges for skills acquired and problems solved.

Benefits to my students

Struggling students with disabilities will begin enjoying math and increase their understanding of math concepts and application in real life situations. By increasing math skills in a fun small group environment, students self-confidence will increase as well. In addition to increase in math skills, students will be expected to work in pairs and team so increase in social skills and team work skills are also expected.
