Dear Alys Foundation,

     Thank you for funding our Learning thorugh Literature grant. This year our class enjoyed participating in book clubs and developed a love for reading. The class demonstrated the ability to collaborate and discuss topics related to their books. Each leveled group grew each week as they developed new reading skills including fluency, comprehension, prediction, connections, comparing and contrasting, and summarizing. The bonds that were created will not likel be unbroken. We are grateful that you found value in our education!

Students completed reading response packets as they read each book.  Students also participated in collaborative conversations to share their opinions and findings within each book. Students completed surveys to express their overall excitement about the book clubs. "I  loved the journeys that the animals were on" -M.C. , "Those books kept us laughing!"- C.L., "We got to share our opinions." -S.B., "We each knew what happened , then talked about it." -T.F., "It was creative." - M.C. I observed students bonding with each other as they read their books. Laughter was a big component of one of the groups.  Other groups showed concern for the characters as they took a journey through the books.  Overall the students were excited to read their books each week and looked forward to what they would read next!
