Goal

The project objectives are for my students to have the sensory supports and items that they need within in the classroom to support their need for breaks and movement. By having a variety of sensory supports and materials for my students, students will have what they need to regulate their sensory needs in the classroom.

What will be done with my students

The timeline for the activities will be sensory breaks daily that are built into my students schedule. Sensory breaks will also be used as needed for individual students. Students will know what sensory supports are available and staff will support students in determining the appropriate sensory supports for individual students.

Benefits to my students

In order to measure for determining success, students will have individual breaks built into their schedule and sensory breaks will be given as needed. Student academics and behavior will be tracked to determine if the sensory breaks are helping my students complete their academic tasks and assignments. My students benefit from having breaks and sensory supports incorporated in their schedule. This helps them as they work towards grade level and access standards.

Describe the Students

This year, I am finding that most of my students are needing more sensory breaks built into their schedule within the classroom setting. While I have some fidgets and sensory bins in my classroom, I am in need of additional sensory supports for my students when they need a break in the classroom. The students whom this program will benefit are my 2nd to 5th grade students with autism. I teach math and science and have a group of 12 students in the morning and a group of 11 students in the afternoon. All of my students receive weekly social skills and need breaks throughout the day to complete work. My students have varying needs including physical therapy, language therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and DHH services.

Budget Narrative
