Goal

This project will benefit the entire school population of Paul B Stephens. Our mission is to improve the look of the landscaping around the school, we have a school beautification mission. The students are part of an Extended Transition program, we focus on vocational training and independent living skills. Landscape work builds both of those skills for the students.

What will be done with my students

My objective through classroom teaching and hands-on experience, is to give my students a sense of success and accomplishment resulting from hard work and attention to details. I will be working side-by-side with them to demonstrate and teach the importance of planning, preparing, and executing tasks from start to finish. I hope to build the students' stamina and their ability to push through a difficult task, as well as increasing their comfort level in multiple job skills in an effort to equip them for a productive job in their community. Landscaping around the school campus has developed into a school beautification mission each year. We add plants, mulch, and other landscaping materials in order to beautify areas around the school campus.

Benefits to my students

I will measure their success through continued observation, frequent written documentation, along with photos to support the progress. My data will include the
growth in their abilities to follow the sequence of specific directions; to increase the time spent on each task; to work as a team; to perform a task on a set schedule; to
overcome "roadblocks"; to be problem solvers rather than problem makers; and to see the project through to completion with pride. We have several areas on campus that we are currently "beautifying", these plants will allow us to continue to create a more visually appealing place to come to school and/or work. Landscaping is a large on-going part of this program, we work on getting the land ready for planting and then planting, followed by mulching and decorative touches such as border rocks and flags.

Describe the Students
