My goal is to have more ESE students love to read. Most of the time the students are too embarrassed to read to themselves or out loud because they can't read. These decodable books will also help the students read more books on their reading level as well as books they can take home to their families. I'm trying to build a community of learning for these children to want to be successful and know they can do it. Just takes time and practice.

Goal

My goal is to have more ESE students love to read. Most of the time the students are too embarrassed to read to themselves or out loud because they can't read. These decodable books will also help the students read more books on their reading level as well as books they can take home to their families. I'm trying to build a community of learning for these children to want to be successful and know they can do it. Just takes time and practice.

What will be done with my students

My students will be pulled for a 30 minute group, 5 days a week. During the guided reading group, the students will be working on phonics and phonological awareness skills that will be identified in the decodable story we will be reading in group. We will continue to read the same story every day for a week, working on a different skill. On Fridays, the students will be given an Oral Language Fluency assessment to assess if, after reading these, students have increased the number of words they are reading per minute. The students will also be able to take home the books to practice reading with their families.

Benefits to my students

The outcome is for students to increase their oral fluency to grade level expectation. In addition, to work on increase the student's phonic skills. Being able to identify sounds or blends in a word for when they try to start reading multisyllabic words.

Describe the Students

My students are low performing ESE students. They struggle with identifying all their sounds, letters, and blends. Most of the students are reading below the average rate for students their age.

Budget Narrative

The materials listed above are decodable guided reading groups that I will be reading with my students. The books range from Level A to Level R, to help me address the needs of my students in Kindergarten through 4th grade.
