My goal is to use drum circles and the power of rhythm to increase engagement and excitement with my students. If we want to have our elementary students continue in music education, they need to be "hooked" in elementary! I feel that using drumming with the students will be an exciting way to get all of the students engaged in class. Plus, it will make learning so much fun!

Goal

My goal is to use drum circles and the power of rhythm to increase engagement and excitement with my students. If we want to have our elementary students continue in music education, they need to be "hooked" in elementary! I feel that using drumming with the students will be an exciting way to get all of the students engaged in class. Plus, it will make learning so much fun!

What will be done with my students

By having a class set of drums, I will be able to have whole group drumming! This will be an exciting and engaging way to teach various rhythmic concepts in music.

Benefits to my students

My students will experience the power of community building by using rhythm through drumming together. They will be learning about music with fun, energetic and exciting activities while using whole group drum circles. Higher student engagement means higher student achievement! Using a drum circle, in a whole group experience, will also foster a sense of belonging for all students. Inclusion is powerful. Inclusive classrooms promote higher academic outcomes, improve a student's social skills and leads to a greater self esteem, especially for a child with special needs.

Describe the Students

We have a wide variety of students who are ESE, English Language Learners, students with Speech and Language services, as well as several in the Gifted program. We have a few self-contained ESE units but most of our general ed classes have a mix of students in all ranges of the learning spectrum. These drums will be used with the music program which services all students including general ed and Autism units, K-5 .

Budget Narrative

I would like to have 10 of each size TUBANO drum. They will be purchased using the Pinellas County Bid list which will save some money over going full retail.
The 12" x 26" drum is $166.66 each

Thank you for considering funding of this project!
