Goal

To acquire high-quality, durable, noise-canceling headphones to facilitate an optimal learning environment for our diverse student population, ensuring that each student, regardless of their unique needs and learning styles, can focus and engage effectively with the learning material. 

 

What will be done with my students

Introduction of Technology: Students will be introduced to the new noise-canceling headphones and instructed on their proper use and care.

Individual Use: Students will use the headphones during individual learning times when watching tutorials or engaging in focused work, allowing for increased concentration and reduced distractions.

Enhanced Engagement: The headphones will facilitate more engaged and immersive learning experiences, particularly for our students who are sensitive to noise, enabling them to participate more fully in all classroom activities. 

 

Benefits to my students

Reduced Distractions: The noise-canceling feature will minimize distractions, particularly for our neurodiverse and ESE students, enabling improved focus and retention of information.

Enhanced Learning Experience: High-quality sound will improve the overall learning experience, particularly during multimedia presentations and tutorial sessions.

Increased Comfort: Improved comfort over current headphone models will encourage prolonged use when needed, facilitating more effective learning sessions.

Accommodation of Diverse Needs: The new headphones will better accommodate the varying needs of our students, including those with sensory sensitivities, contributing to a more inclusive learning environment. 

 

Describe the Students

Our classroom is diverse, comprising a mix of neurotypical and neurodiverse students, including those with autism, and students who are ELL, ESE, or have a 504 plan. Currently, we have 24 students, 12 of whom have documented accommodations. Given the adult learning setting of our technical college, not all students may choose to disclose their needs, indicating the possible existence of additional, undisclosed needs.

Our students are pursuing studies in web development and represent a wide range of skills and abilities, with a common goal of acquiring technical skills for career advancement or change. The classroom is focused on accommodating the diverse needs of all students to provide an inclusive, supportive learning environment. 

 

Budget Narrative

As of now, there is a significant price difference between suppliers, with Staples offering them at $63.36 each, and Office Depot at $32.99 each. Given this variance, preference will be given to purchasing from Office Depot to maximize the number of units acquired, enabling us to procure approximately 30 units within the budget. However, the acquisition will be contingent on the available inventory of the preferred supplier at the time of purchase. If inventory is limited, we may need to opt for the alternative supplier, Staples, which would allow for the procurement of approximately 15 units within the allotted budget.
