Goal

Our goal is to help our students learn to speak English. We have students from all backgrounds. We have students that have never attended school in their native country to students with PHDs. They all have the same goal to learn English so they may be productive employees in their communities.  

 

What will be done with my students

We will work with our students, so they understand the complexities of the English language. Using the various manipulatives that this grant would provide will help them to gain more and more confidence as they learn. Manipulatives such as alphabet, blends and digraph teaching tubs, phonic and word family flip books, and word building boards are just a few things that would help our students to become more successful. 

 

Benefits to my students

The students will become more confident with their learning process as they work to understand the English language. They will then be able to become wage earners and contribute to their home and communities.  

 

Describe the Students

Our students are all adults that have come to the United States for a variety of reasons. Some have left communist countries, while others have married a United States citizen, and yet others have moved here to further their careers. They all have one common goal at this time and that is to learn to speak and understand the English language. As I stated earlier, they range in educational backgrounds form no schooling at all to having doctorate degrees. 

 

Budget Narrative

Our classes are multi-level English speaking groups. Many of our students do not know the alphabet sounds or spellings of English words. We hope to use the alphabet phonetic activities to enhance our instruction. As students English improve, many of them become quite curious about grammar rules and patterns. The games and workbooks we want to order will help answer some of those questions. The Ellii digital platform will assist us in creating our lesson plans, online activities, and with a variety of teaching materials that are focused on current events and global issues. Finally, the tubs, books, games, and workbooks will provide our students the opportunity to enhance their vocabulary. Please grant us the opportunity to assist the language acquisition of our students.
