My goal is to have multiple copies of each book that have been selected by the state of Florida as quality literature for students to read to prepare for the Pinellas County Battle of the Books. I have purchased 1 complete set using my own personal money but would like a second set as these books are very popular and many students want to read them!

Goal

My goal is to have multiple copies of each book that have been selected by the state of Florida as quality literature for students to read to prepare for the Pinellas County Battle of the Books. I have purchased 1 complete set using my own personal money but would like a second set as these books are very popular and many students want to read them!

What will be done with my students

All students in grades 3-5 are invited to join our annual Book Club as we prepare for the county Battle of the Books. Each week we meet and the students have time to select and check out a book. We read passages together, do book related activities and compete in practice battles with other members of the team to see who knows the books the best!

Benefits to my students

Students will benefit from this grant by being able to check out and read the 15 Sunshine State Young Readers Awards books without having to wait for copies to be available.

Describe the Students

The Book Club consists of 25-30 students who voluntarily sign up. These students are usually high readers who look for an extra challenge and enjoy reading chapter books. Al students are invited to attend regardless of their reading skill.

Budget Narrative

This budget includes 16 copies of books (2 of Bedhead Ted as it has not been released yet so I have not purchased a copy), plus a scanner for students to use to check in and out their books and a cart to keep them in one place.
