Goal

To provide students with the opportunity to experience leadership, in a fun and creative manner. To demonstrate their individual creativity while at the same time learning how to participate in a group project. To use what they are being taught in the Leader In Me class to create a functioning piece of art.

What will be done with my students

The students will be broken down into teams of three to four students. Each team will designate two/three builders and one person to act as the eyes of the team. An example creation will be made and hidden behind a shield. Only the designated student will be allowed to go behind the shield an view the creation. They then must come back to the team and describe how to build what they saw. They are not allowed to touch any of the pieces. They can only verbally describe each piece then where it goes. the builders must listen carefully to the description so that they can get the right pieces and know how to use them to create the same creation as is behind the shield. Once completed with the first creation they will switch rolls and build the second creation. After completing the second creation they will continue to rotate until each team member gets to be the eyes. Once done, the teams will pick their best line up and compete against the teams in a timed manner. The winning team will receive a prize.

Benefits to my students

Each student will have the opportunity to lead by being the eyes of their team. Each student will learn how to listen to other students as the builders. Each student will learn how to work together in a team/group project environment. Have fun competing against their peers in a safe and friendly competition.

Describe the Students

We are members of the Pinellas County Schools Alternative Education Services division. Our students are from all corners of our district. We have taken students from the other various high schools in Pinellas County who have fallen behind in their accumulation of credits for graduation and have aided them in completing the state requirements needed to complete their high school education. We have students who are ESE and ESOL as well. We also have students who have come to us so that they can finish and graduate early.
