Goal

Enhance student experience in Physical Education class and schoolwide events run by the Physical Education Department. Support positive behavior management, safety, and organization during Physical Education activities. 

 

What will be done with my students

The equipment purchased with the money for this grant will do wonders in enhancing the student experience during Physical Education. In the technological age, where everyone wants everything "right now." It has become increasingly more challenging in obtaining and keeping student attention. The use of a quality PA System will help in this area tremendously. Teachers will be able to consistently communicate with all students no matter the distance in between or the excessive noise that may be present. At any given time, we are battling to keep the student's attention with airplanes, lawn mowers, and traffic sounds. A new PA System will also help enhance the experience for the entire school community who is involved with schoolwide functions such as the Turkey Trot and Field Day. A new PA SYstem will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operation of PE class!

The students experience will also be enhanced with the purchase of a portable speaker system. This system will be much more mobile than the PA System and will prove quite beneficial when it comes to "rainy day" activities and Pre-K PE classes. Both rainy day activities and Pre-K PE classes are located in a different area than the regular PE class. Many times, when it rains, we must change locations very quickly. There are many great indoor activities we can play with the use of music that we normally are unable to. The use of a portable speaker system will also help out tremendously when trying to communicate with a large group of students indoors. As for the Pre-K PE classes, music has proven to be very beneficial to their development of fine motor skills. Using a portable speaker will allow the teacher to keep the attention of those students more easily.

Structure is key in our environment when it comes to elevating student success and eliminating off-task behavior. This is why we hope to purchase multiple pieces of equipment that come in a variety of different colors. Identifying students or groups of students to a specific piece of equipment not only helps students not get confused on which piece of equipment to use, it also allows the teacher to identify students more easily; leading to an easier way to access student performance. Colorized equipment is a major component for our program in regard to curbing behavior concerns and remaining organized. 

 

Benefits to my students

Students will truly benefit from the new electronic equipment. Serving the entire student population requires extensive use of one's voice. A new PA System will greatly enhance a student's experience as the teacher will be able to clearly communicate more effectively with the entire student population during class and schoolwide events such as Field Day. Our current system is very unreliable and at many times doesn't work at all. This hinders the student experience as many of our activities rely on the use of music. A new PA System will be of great benefit to our students.

The smaller speaker system will primarily be used for rainy day activities and our Pre-K PE classes (who meet at a different location). Many times, throughout the school year, we are forced inside due to inclement weather. Unfortunately, we are unable to engage in many activities because they require some musical source. Our current PA System is too heavy to transport back and forth. The use of a portable speaker will open up many more indoor activities for our students. It too will allow us to communicate more effectively with the students as we must compete with the noise of over 60 students in an enclosed environment. This system will also be used for our Pre-K PE classes who meet in a different location than all of our other classes. The use of music has proven to be very beneficial for our young students, who learn a multitude of rhythmic skills. This portable speaker system will allow for quick and easy use when it comes to having to change lessons due to weather and during our Pre-K classes.

Student behavior is one of our biggest challenges when serving over 60 students at a time. Many times, students become upset and frustrated, because they get their equipment mixed up with other students. The use of rainbow-colored equipment helps solve a lot of those issues before they even begin. Students will be able to identify their particular piece of equipment without confusion. This also helps the teacher identify which student is using a certain piece of equipment. Making it easier to identify which particular students may need more assistance. Rainbow colored equipment will help eliminate conflict while allowing the lesson to run more smoothly.
