Goal

In the Voluntary PreK Program (VPK), students should know all of their letters, both uppercase and lowercase, as well as all of their letter sounds. Using the Alphabet Sounds Teaching Tubs will enhance student learning through a hands on, tactile approach to learning.

What will be done with my students

Small and large group instruction will be done, using the tubs and the materials in the tubs, to create a hands-on learning experience. Using the tubs with supplemental class materials and supports will help students learn their letters and sounds by the end of the year. This will give them a strong foundation for Kindergarten.

Benefits to my students

Increased hands-on activities; tactile learning of letters (proven as a way to quickly learn), increased items for letter identification (each tub has both upper and lower case letters, as wel as items that start with that letter). Additionally, these tubs will help students who struggle by using them to reinforce their learning. Students can match items with the letter container, thus increasing their skill level.

Describe the Students

These tubs would be a perfect asset for working with students with disabilities and/or ELL students. High neurotypical students can use the tubs to sort items and to practice letter recognition and sounds by using multiple tubs. Lower neurotypical students (ESE) can use small group instruction for learning one or two letters at a time. ELL students will benefit from having small group instruction that focuses not only on learning the letters but also the sounds and names of the items in the tubs.

Budget Narrative

Pinellas Central Elementary School has 2 VPK classes, and both classes would benefit from each class having their own individual Alphabet Sounds Teaching Tubs.
