Goal

The objective of this grant request is to establish a diverse classroom library that fosters a love for reading and enhances student knowledge across various subjects, leading to improved academic performance and overall learning outcomes.

What will be done with my students

Students will discuss their favorite books or share their favorite reads. This will allow students to discover new books and receive personalized recommendations based on their interests. I will set aside dedicated reading time during class. Students will be encouraged to choose books from the classroom library during this time to develop a habit of independent reading and improve comprehension skills. Students will pair up as reading buddies, where they can discuss the books, they are reading, share insights, and encourage each other to explore different genres. Students will be encouraged to write short book reviews after completing a book. These reviews can be shared with the class, posted on the bulletin board, or compiled into a classroom book review journal. Reading challenges, such as setting a target number of books to read within a specific time frame or exploring different literary themes, will be implemented allowing students to increase their exposure to many types of texts.

Benefits to my students

The library will enhance student learning, promote academic achievement, and improve overall literacy levels. The classroom library will feature a wide range of books, including fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, and various genres, catering to different interests and reading levels. The collection will also include books that align with the curriculum and relevant topics, fostering a love for learning.
