Impact to My Classroom

Keeping organized and having the matching folders for all AVID students was impactful for our school. Not only was each student able to acquire a 3 ring binder without the worry of the cost, they were also able oto have matching folders throughout the year so that teachers could see that the sticker on the folder meant that the student is an AVID student which requires them to file, organize and take notes in all classes.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To provide each AVID student with a 3-ring binder at the beginning of the school year. This will avoid the students lag time getting started on their organizational skills and allow them to start learning an organization system the first day of school. Having this on-hand initially, instead of waiting for parents to provide, will allow all students to feel included and have provisions for EVERY student in AVID to help toward their success..

What will be done with my students

AVID students will carry the same three ring binder to every class with a tab for each class.

Benefits to my students

If all AVID students have the same green Hopkins color binder it will be easily seen in all classes that the student is 1. An AVID student 2. Allow accountability into the hands of students 3. Avoid the financial difficulty and transportation issues to gain the supplies from home 4. Provide the consistency needed for success.

Describe the Students

AVID students are brilliant scholars who have the desire for further education beyond high school and need the additional support on (WICOR) strategies: Writing, Inquiry, Organization, Collaboration, and Reading to achieve and feel success. AVID students thrive on consistency, deliberate organizational skills and a curriculum that allows reflection and growth mindset.

Budget Narrative

All AVID students will have the same green binder with an AVID /WICOR sticker and tabs for each class to assist with organizational consistency from the beginning of the school year. This will be recognizable throughout the school and allow for a growth mindset from the first day of class.
