Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 209

This grant was a huge success in coordination with our Extended Transition Social Worker.  We ordered hygiene supplies for both male and female students.  She then in turn brought the supplies to each program in Pinellas County and shared supplies with our most needing students.  She provided education on their important and use.  And coordinated with students on how to clean properly and the importance of things such as deodorant and soap.  This was an ongoing lesson and cut down on a lot of smells, or other hygiene issues.  It also helped with other students to make them aware of how important it is to get themselves and stay clean for their school and/or work program.  The funding was well used and made a significant difference in the lives of some of our special needs students.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Goal of this grant is to purchase hygiene products for our vulnerable due to hygiene issue special needs students within the Extended Transition program.

What will be done with my students

Currently across Pinellas County students are attending Extended Transition programs where they learn job and life skills. Many of these students arrive at and attend these programs without adequate hygiene. Much of this is due to the lack of resources and training on the need to use and wear hygiene products. Or is was left out of students education as they developed into a young adult. These students are expected to work and learn job skills within their assigned environment and are just not presentable on a daily basis around their public and peer members. The county Social Worker through PCSB will be providing the hygiene supplies to our most needing students within the Extended Transition programs around the county.

Benefits to my students

Students will benefit from having access to hygiene products as provided through the counties social worker. Students will benefit from the gained confidence and learning that proper hygiene can help them get and keep a job. Looking and smelling right makes a difference in the lives of our young adults. This is something these students have to learn, but is not always possible if they lack the resources for these items. Or often our students even lack the transportation to get what they need. Thank you in advanced for your support.
