Anonymous - $972.00
Giving students an opportunity to become proficient in using scientific calculators.
Students would use these calculators, in class, every day (54 calculators would mean 2 classroom sets). Becoming proficient in the use of scientific calculators would make it possible for students to spend less time on calculations and therefore get more time to study math concepts in depth.
Beginning 2022-2023, calculators will be allowed on all portions of Math tests. Most of my students do not own a calculator and cannot afford to purchase one. The calculators that we currently use in class are very simple, and no longer helpful. Students would use these scientific calculators every day throughout 8th grade. Becoming proficient in their use would definitely increase their test scores because they would make less calculation mistakes. It would also better prepare them for high school, where scientific calculators are a great part of Math classes.
I currently teach 140 students - a combination of ESE, ESOL, regular students, mostly low performers. Unfortunately, a large number of these students cannot afford school supplies and other than in the Math classroom, will have no other opportunity to learn how to correctly use a scientific calculator.
54 calculators x $18.00
Sometimes calculators may be on sale for $12, which would mean 54 calculators x $12 = $648
# | Item | Cost |
