Goal

The accuracy of new technologies to translate various languages, (i.e. Pilot, Ili, Travis and Vasco) . This would be compared to the other "cheaper" routes like using Google translate, google translate photo app for paper translations, ordinary dictionary translations and iTranslate Pro.

What will be done with my students

First, I will identify students who are Bilingual. Galaxy Middle School has a higher percentage of students who have family members at home who speak mainly Spanish to their children. This is in comparison to the rest of the district.

Students who are Bilingual will test the experiments in 2-3 class periods. They will have one person record the accuracy of "Pilot" versus Google translate and dictionary translations.

After the Spanish translations are completed , we would try other translations. French, German, etc, if time and availability allows.

Once the programs and devices are made available, I would test them and go back as needed to modify experimentation.

Benefits to my students

Pilot is a new "kickstarter" device that would be shipped November 2017. I would use this as an experiment of using devices in the classroom to help other students communicate with the teacher or others who are ESOL.

After testing is completed, I would make a report on the accuracy and performance of each item with the students. This would be a helpful guide for others (teachers, administrators, support staff) to maybe purchase in the future to have ease of communication with students.

Budget Narrative

Each program or device would be a valuable resource for the classroom. It's capabilities to translate many languages increases the cost of product. It is per device. I also plan to purchase an application, download Google Translate and obtain a resource book of Spanish-English dictionary.
